Patients’ Voice Project
Patients’ Voice Project has become active since March 2016. Funded by the European Union to help promote and advocate for patients’ rights in Northern Cyprus, the Project has been formed as a partnership project between the Universal Patients’ Rights Association (Turkish Cypriot community) and the Active Citizenship Network (ACN – Italy) (representing civil society and health organisations from 30 European countries). The Project is guided by a Steering Committee made up of the Project stakeholder representatives which meets every month.
Problems as identified by the Project in Health Care System
Problem 1: Lack of awareness in patients’ rights and responsibilities
Problem 2: Lack of respect to the patients
Problem 3: Violation of patients’ rights
Problem 4: Because of lack of knowledge and awareness in advocacy, also lack of active citizenship mechanisms, only few people are involved in activism at all level.
Problem 5: Lack of legal framework
This project is funded by the European Union under the Cypriot Civil Society in Action Programme and implemented by the Universal Patient’s Rights Association and the Active Citizenship Network.
